South Korea’s leader schedules four-day visit to China
This will mark Lee’s first visit to China since assuming office in June. Officials in Beijing said the visit is expected to play an “active role in advancing” the strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
Chinese officials also emphasized the broader relationship between the neighbors, noting that China and South Korea “are important neighbors and cooperative partners,” highlighting the significance of sustained engagement between the two sides.
The upcoming trip follows President Xi’s own visit to South Korea late last year, when he spent several days in the country and attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. That journey was his first to South Korea in more than a decade, his previous visit having taken place in 2014.
China and South Korea established formal diplomatic relations in August 1992, and economic ties have since grown substantially. Bilateral trade between the two countries reached $267.6 billion in 2024, underscoring the depth of their economic interdependence.
