South Korea’s President Public Support Surges to 71.2 Percent

(MENAFN) South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's public support climbed 2.2 percentage points to reach 71.2 percent last week when measured against figures from two weeks prior, according to fresh polling data released Monday.

Disapproval of Lee's government performance dropped 1.8 percentage points to 27.7 percent, based on computer-assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) conducted by local survey firm Flower Research.

The governing liberal Democratic Party experienced a 3.4 percentage point increase in backing, rising to 56.6 percent, while the conservative opposition People Power Party saw its approval decline 2.1 percentage points to 24.1 percent.

The minor left-leaning Rebuilding Korea Party and the minor rightist New Reform Party each registered 2.3 percent and 2.2 percent support respectively during the most recent polling period.

A separate automated response system (ARS) survey from the same pollster revealed Lee's approval rating jumped 5.4 percentage points to 63.7 percent last week compared to measurements taken two weeks earlier.

Both CATI and ARS methodologies surveyed 1,005 and 1,009 voters respectively between Friday and Saturday. The polls carried a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points with a 95 percent confidence level.
